Slioch, the Spear, is a Munro on the northern shore of Loch Maree. The usual approach is to walk for an hour into the base from the small town of Kinlochewe an alternative approach for the more adventurous is to Canoe across the loch. This saves two hours in total of walking.
From the shore of the loch the route takes you up in to Coire na Sleaghaich onto the mountains south ridge. This leads up to the summit.
With stunning views of the Fisherfield hills to the east and Torridon hills to the west as well as over Loch Maree itself this has to be one of the finest vistas in all of Scotland and not to be missed.
Day one – will start by packing our equipment and then launching on Loch Maree. A Paddle around the Islands on the loch will allow you to enjoy this spectacular scenery. In the evening we’ll paddle across to a sheltered bay at the foot of Slioch where we can pitch tents ready for an ascent the following day. Typically we’ll cook a group meal and sit around the fire swapping stories from the day.
Day two – We will take down the tents and pack up the equipment ready for our return journey. Once this is done we will climb Slioch via a route appropriate to you before descending back to the canoes for a short journey back across the loch.
Equipment is provided including;
- Buoyancy Aids
- Sleeping Bags (and liner)
You will need to bring your usual hill walking equipment.
Accommodation is not included with this course – however tents, cooking equipment and food can be provided as part of the cost.
Please note the approach to Slioch via canoe is weather dependent so not always available.
