Learning to lead climb is a rewarding and challenging endeavour. It allows you to experience the freedom of climbing all over the world with nothing more then a rope and some items of gear.
This course aims to introduce a lot of concepts for you to go and practice as well as showing you techniques to make sure you can make sound and safe judgements during your climbing career. You can expect to cover topics such as:
- Belaying a second
- What to carry
- Placing gear
- Testing anchors
- Building belays
- Equalising anchors
- Which route(s) to climb
- How to rack gear for maximum efficiency
- How to practice lead climbing safely
- When to place gear
- Climbing footwork
- Balance and resting
- Traditional moves (e.g. chimneying and jaming)
- How to prepare yourself mentally to lead
- How to stay calm when it feels like its going wrong
- Trust in “good” gear placements
As you can tell this gives a lot to fit in during the course. For this reason I run this course for between 2 to 5 days; During this time I can’t promise that you will get an opportunity to lead for the first time, that is a decisions that needs to be made by everyone involved face to face, however I will do my best to get you on the sharp end if that is your goal.
Accommodation is not included.
Locations for the course will be discussed upon booking. Should we not be able to agree a suitable destination you’ll not be charged.
