Description

New to walking in the mountains? or perhaps you’ve ventured on paths and tracks but would like to get more off the beaten track? Mountain walking enables you to get to some of the most beautiful and wild parts of the UK. This course covers the wide range of skills required so that you will be confident next time you go exploring.

Topics covered include:

  • Navigation, planning and route selection
  • Movement and steep ground
  • Equipment and clothing
  • River crossings
  • Overnight and wild camping
  • Emergency procedures and rope-work

The course will have a large practical element with each day being spent on the hill using the skills you’ve learn. There will be the option of an overnight camp during the course so you can try your hand at camping and cooking with night navigation if desired.

The aim of the course is for you to become an independent mountain walker able to explore the wonderful hills and mountains of the UK.

To fit enough content into this course I offer it as a minimum of two days and a maximum of five days. This makes it perfect to fit into a weekend of week off work. Camping equipment can be provided but normal walking kit is required including waterproofs.


Accommodation is not included.

Locations for the course will be discussed upon booking. Should we not be able to agree a suitable destination you’ll not be charged. I run most of these course in Scotland as this gives the best opportunity to get into remote terrain and really build your confidence. However, this course can be run in Snowdonia or the Lake District if preferred.

Waterproof Jacket, Waterproof Trousers, Hat, Gloves, Fleece / Jumper, Sturdy Boots, Rucksack (40l), Food and Drink, Map and Compass, Headtorch, Sleeping bag, Sleeping Mat, Stove, Tent

Finish

5pm each day with an evening out on one day for night navigation if desired.
