Gorge scrambling is journeying up a river gorge. It uses a variety of skills from climbing to swimming. On the way you’ll get to experience jumps and swims as well as travel into some amazing places.
Rivers can be dangerous places. In order to travel safely in this environment you’ll need to develop your understanding of technical skills, risks involved and how to manage them. This course gives you a taster of what’s involved with plenty of fun and some new skills.
A typical course will involve travelling through a gorge where we look at hazards and opportunities to have fun, You’ll get to try:
- A variety of water entry techniques
- Jumps into pools
- Spotting each other over rock steps
- An introduction to simple safety gear and how to use it.
In addition we’ll discuss:
- Equipment for gorge scrambles
- Water hazards
- Understanding river levels and impact on safety
This course takes place over a single day where, depending on the location we’ll either journey through a single or multiple rivers.
Due to the nature of the environment it’s unlikely you’d develop the skills needed to go into gorges independently after this course however you’ll get an opportunity to have lots of fun, learn a bit and become a competent member of groups heading into gorges in the future.
