Description

Canoeing is an elegant peaceful way of exploring the lochs, lakes and rivers of the UK. On this course you’ll get the opportunity to try canoeing for the first time.

Pairing up tandem in traditional canoes you’ll learn to trust the person you paddle with. We’ll spend the morning looking at techniques needed for you to travel efficiently on water in a canoe before we head out on a journey to explore the loch or lake that we’re on.

Key strokes we can look at include :

  • forward paddle strokes
  • backwards paddle strokes
  • sideways paddle strokes
  • types of turning stroke
  • trimming the craft for a variety of conditions

Equipment is included with the course; buoyancy aid, paddle, canoe. You need to bring waterproof jacket and trousers, plus clothes you don’t mind getting wet (old trainers are great).


Accommodation is not included as part of this course.

Ability

Novice (this course is designed for beginners).

Equipment

Clothing you don’t mind getting wet (tights, leggins or walking trousers and fleece tops are good), old trainers, sun hat, warm hat, sunscreen.

Location

Snowdonia, the Lake District and Scotland all provide fantastic venues where you can learn to canoe.

Start

9am – we’ll meet at this time on the first day of the course.

5pm – we aim to finish at this time on the day of your course.
